Before Installation of Protective Devices

Before protective devices are installed, the City of Burbank should be consulted.

Some of the items to evaluate when considering potential mud and debris flows are:

  • Examine property for potential area flows;

  • Clean areas of potential flows to allow maximum drainage and to prevent debris runoff;

  • Install devices that can handle potential flow volumes;

  • Diversion of flows should not affect neighboring properties;

  • Devices should be installed within property boundaries – Best practice of diversion flows between adjacent properties should be with consensus of all parties;

  • Properties with adjacent hillsides should consult with a geotechnical engineer for advice on temporary shoring or modification of hillside slopes for increased stabilization.

Before starting any work, make sure you have obtained all applicable permits!
